Incredible news from the dig!

Lying amongst some heavy stones this morning, volunteers found what is believed to be a tombstone for a member of the elite, cavalry unit, the Ala Paetriana.

Archaeologists believe this is the best proof yet that the regiment, the largest on Hadrian’s Wall, used the bath house at what is now Carlisle cricket club.

At the party last night, Frank told guests that something significant always turns up on the last day of the dig.

He seems to have been right. Some archaeologists, he says, go through their careers without finding inscriptions like this. Magnificent.
