Jordan Oultram carries Carlisle Thirds over the line as Patterdale go down.
Carlisle Thirds completed a fantastic season with a final day win to guarantee promotion to Eden Valley League division one.
Batting first in the shadow of the pavilion, Patterdale, facing relegation, put up some early fight as Carlisle struggled to make a breakthrough.
At 64-1, the visitors were giving themselves a fighting chance of making life hard for Hogie’s men.
But a succession of wickets was triggered by the introduction of David Macca McMillan as Patterdale eventually folded to 101 all out.
Despite traditional fears over chasing small targets, Carlisle navigated the early overs without loss before Jacob was sent on his way to a disputed LBW decision.
That only hastened the introduction of Jordi Oultram, whose belligerence in putting sixes on to the pavilion roof was just what Carlisle needed.
Victory was duly completed inside 19 overs, and while commiserations to Patterdale who go down, the outcome was vindication for skipper Lee Hogarth who has pushed this side with the sole intention of climbing back through the leagues.
Congratulations to everyone who has made a contribution to the Thirds this season. Hogie acknowledged you all while draining a lemonade heavy shandy on the pavilion steps afterwards.
Rock n roll, skip!
